You don’t need to spend a ton of money with advertising and marketing agencies… you can do it yourself for FREE.
Hey everyone, I’m Brian Singer, and I help Contractors get more business with digital marketing.
Today, i’m gonna show you how you can rank your website in Google and do SEO for Home Improvement Contractors.
Step 1
The first thing you need to know about is Google My Business.
Google My Business allows you to submit your local contracting business to Google, It’s where you’re putting in your company name, your address, your phone number.
Once you’re listed in there, you have a chance to rank in the localized pack.
The localized pacl… or sometimes its called the map pack, is whenever you search for, let’s say, a plumber on your mobile phone, you’re getting all these localized listings.
That’s a localized map pack. And you want to be in there because if you’re in there, you’re going to get more business.
Step 2
The next thing you want to do for local SEO is get the reviews. When you get reviews, you’re going to rank higher. So the more people that say you’re amazing and that you have a good service, the better off you’re going to be.
So whenever you do a job, tell people, “Hey, rate us on Google. “Leave a review. “Leave a rating.” And you’ll find a lot of people will. Everyone these days is focusing on Yelp reviews.
Yeah, there’s nothing wrong with Yelp, but why not also focus on Google?
Because that allows you to rank higher.
Step 3
The next thing you want to do is make sure you include your address, the name of your business, and the phone number on the contact page of your website.. .
By doing that, when people are doing local searching in Google, you’re much more likely to pop up.
Step 4
The next tip for local SEO is if your website is running on WordPress, use the Yoast SEO plugin. It’ll optimize your website without you even being technical. You don’t need to pay an agency thousands of dollars.
You don’t have to pay a marketing agency. If you’re a local home services business, like a plumber, handyman or roofing contractor, just go out there, use the Yoast SEO plugin on your WordPress site, and it’ll pretty much optimize most of the things you need on your website.
If you’re not running WordPress, then that’s fine. You can just go in the dashboard of your site, if you’re using wix or squarespace… , adjust your title tags to include your keywords, your meta description to include your keywords and make sure you include the keywords you’re trying to rank for within the text and pages of your website.
If you not using keywords, how will Google know what to rank you for?
If you don’t have enough keywords Then you’ll want to create more content.
So if you’re a garage door installer, and you want to boost your local SEO, you want to write content about garage doors, and broken springs, and what to do if your door comes off the track… anything that would be helpful for a person searching for Garage door repair…
If your a HVAC contractor, write content about changing the filters, keeping your ducts clean, or how to adjust the thermostat for energy efficiency… and that kind of thing…
I understand you’re not in the business of teaching people how to fix their garage door or their furnace…, but by writing all this content about garage doors… and all these kind of articles, you’re more likely to rank for all the garage door terms within your city.
And last but not least, to build your local SEO sign up for Google Search Console. Within Google Search Console, you can find out what issues Google has with your site, what errors they’re finding. You can submit your sitemap.
If you’re using a tool the Yoast SEO, then the sitemap will already be created for you…
If you don’t have a sitemap, just go and create an XML sitemap. If you Google it, there’s a lot of free tools out there that create sitemaps for you. And you can specify which location your business is doing business in.
