Easy methods to Discover Expired Domains With Backlinks from Authority Web sites for Free

A few weeks ago I did a video on how to find expired domains with backlinks from authority websites using Ahrefs and ScrapeBox.

I was asked if there was a way to do it for free. Well, there is!
Though it isn’t as effective as using the above tools you’ll be able to pick up some solid expired domains perfect for use in a PBN or for a money site.

This method requires more manual work than when using paid tools and the possibilities are somewhat limited. However, if you need to find expired domains – either for money site or PBN usage – for free, this is the way to go about it.
___
MY CASE EXAMPLE:

In this video, I scrape the domain “boston.com” to see if I can find any broken links to external domains that have expired. It’s an authority website meaning backlinks from it holds lots of power most of the time. These make for great PBN domains.

Though some of them might have relatively few referring domains, we’re ensured to have at least one extremely strong backlink. One strong link can outplay dozens of low-quality links.

I end up finding a domain that is actually quite decent from this single run-through. It even has backlinks from the New York Times and other reputable websites as well.
___
STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO THIS METHOD

1. Decide upon an authority website you want to scrape from. Preferably choose a website with lots of inner pages. A news site would be ideal.

2. Run the domain through the broken link checker and review the results. We’re looking for “bad host” domains – not 404 or 500 errors.

3. When you’ve made a list of the domains that look interesting, check if they’re available for registration. To bulk check, you can use the above link. Keep in mind some extensions can’t be checked properly by the above website – you might have to do a manual check to ensure you aren’t missing out on a golden domain for your private blog network.

4. Once you have a list of available domain names it’s time to take a closer look at them. The above-linked site will help you review the Majestic metrics for the domain. Referring domains, CF and TF are all decent metrics to get an overview of the domain quality. If you ask 100 SEOs they’ll have 1000 ways of reviewing the value of a domain. It all comes down to your preference. There are free tools out there that can show you Ahrefs and Moz metrics as well.

5. Register the domains that are spam-free and that holds some actual value in terms of link juice. Profit!
