Getting back links is a very important part of getting your website ranking higher in the Google and other search engines. Many think that the more the merrier when it comes to backlinking to help their blog rank higher in the search engines. While having tons of isn’t bad you are much better off focusing on quality rather than quantity!
A back link, or backlink, is a link back to your website or blog, and a vote for the quality of usefulness of the site, thus giving Google the rights to rank your website or blog higher in the search engines. The higher you rank, the more visitors you’ll have.
For the most part posting on forums is a losing game. While you may get some limited backlinks from small search engines, you are mostly wasting your time. If you find a forum where you are interested in the conversation, then by all means, join in.
Getting those high quality links is not easy. That’s why they’re valuable. If they were so easy to get, everyone have quality backlinks and they wouldn’t be so valuable.
One way to find decent backlinks is to have webmasters who are in the same market as you, and ask them to put a link to your website on theirs. You may have to pay for this link, but it could be worth it. For example, the Yahoo directory is a great backlink to have to your site. Problem is while you can ask for the link, you are not guaranteed one for free. But, you can always pay the annual fee for such a premium backlink.
While paying for a Yahoo listing can be expensive, $300 per year, you’ll be virtually guaranteed to get good valuable traffic to your website. Yahoo is considered a PR 8 backlink (backlink PR rankings go up to 10 and a PR 8 backlink is very valuable). This works out to $25 per month for lots of high PR traffic to your site.
Then, we have article directories, such as where you found this article. They often let you have a resource box for your message. These are also perfect for getting targeted traffic.
Online marketers also use social bookmarking sites like reddit.com or digg.com. These help at the beginning for getting your site indexed.
Web 2.0 properties are very good for getting traffic to your website. Plus, they also offer a good backlink. Online marketers can also create something known as a “Link wheel” with web 2.0 properties.
Last, but not least, is getting some .edu backlinks. An Edu backlink is especially valuable for anyone who is doing a backlink campaign. The purpose should be to attract an Edu backlink from authoritative educational sites. Avoid sites that have low page ranks.
